How to Heal Your Shoulder Pain Naturally

You thought the shoulder pain would go away on it’s own. It didn’t. Ok, what are your options? Your doctor may have recommended surgery, therapy or a combination of both. If you have been battling a painful, stiff shoulder for any length of time you may have resorted to treatment measures outside of logical thinking to relieve your pain. I’ve had patients tell me they have used everything from mustard poultices to lubricants made for car parts in attempt to cure frozen shoulder pain.

As long as their method is not directly harmful to them I do not try to argue them down because 1) If they believe it is working I will not succeed in changing their mind, and 2) the person will likely be more receptive to my clinical treatment if I am not argumentative to their beliefs.

However, this is not an article on patient psychology, but the above leads me to answer the question “will exercise cure a frozen shoulder?”.

Research shows that most cases of frozen shoulder are “self-limiting” or resolved within 2 years of onset no matter the course of treatment. That’s fine, but who wants to live with an arm that is 50% useful at best if they can do something NOW to increase function and range of motion? Therefore while some view that exercise itself cannot cure frozen shoulder

There are many different conditions which may cause this pain. These conditions may include shortening or thickening of the tendons in the capsule of the shoulder, scar tissue, tendonitis, inflammation, bursitis, or rotator cuff injuries.
Rotator cuff injuries are a significant cause of frozen shoulder because of the period of immobility which is required for recovery. This immobility may cause severe stiffness. Those patients who have had past chest surgeries, diabetes, or chronic-inflammatory arthritis in the shoulder will have a much higher odd of developing the pain.

There are some other medical conditions which may mimic frozen shoulder pain, but are diagnosed differently. Arthritis in the shoulder is a big one as it can result in swelling, stiffness, pain, and occasionally an injury to the rotator cuff. Rotator cuff injuries will differ from frozen shoulder in that the range of motion loss with a rotator cuff injury is usually restricted to a certain direction. Frozen shoulder will have a total loss of mobility.

The effect of frozen shoulder is very obvious. When inflammation begins in the shoulder joint, it becomes “sticky”. This “stickiness” leads to pain and stiffness which will make the arm very difficult to move. At times, it may freeze up completely.

The three stages of frozen shoulder are freezing, frozen, and thawing. The beginning stage is called the freezing stage because the arm is just starting to freeze up. The end stage is called the thawing stage because the patient will begin to feel some relief and will gradually regain movement in the arm. The middle stage is the frozen stage when the patient has no ability to move the arm at all.

Frozen shoulder symptoms are very odd. A patient may wake up one day unable to move the arm and shoulder, or they may notice the symptoms come on very gradually.There are treatments available for frozen shoulder, such as deep heat ultrasound massages and various forms of physical therapy. However, these treatments are usually a last resort as most doctors prefer to not treat the condition at all.

Exercise During Pregnancy - Be a Healthy & Fit Mom

Most women who become pregnant let themselves go only to regret the consequences later on. You can be active and fit with a good understanding of how to go about exercise but when it comes to pregnancy, your current workouts won’t suffice. That’s why you need to become better educated to avoid stacking on the pounds in all the wrong places and to pave the way for an easy labour.

Firstly, you need to understand your body type. There are four basic body types and designing a suitable exercise program requires an understanding of your body structure. What may be appropriate for one person may not be appropriate for another. Proper body diagnosis is essential to understand and consider when designing a pregnancy fitness program.

Pregnant or not, exercise helps keep the heart, bones, and mind healthy. Staying active also seems to give some special added paybacks for pregnant women.

Here are some exercises that you can do during pregnancy?

Do some light sit ups. Nothing too strenuous here, but perhaps rest your legs on a chair and try bringing your head up off the floor a few inches.

Yoga is a fantastic form of exercise that is very low impact and helps in stretching muscles.

Another good exercise is swimming. The water gives you the ability to move around and work nearly all of your muscle groups, while at the same time it helps in keeping you balanced.

Walking is another good pregnancy exercise for more than one reason. Sure, it gives you some much needed exercise, but it also gets you out of the house and clears your head so to speak.

Do consider your diet during pregnancy. It is important to eat enough of the right foods, however it is all to easy to over-eat!

Lastly, you need to know which specific core exercises to make your labour easier and proven ways to prevent sagging breasts. Take a preventative attitude will not only make you look and feel better it will also help you avoid the common pitfalls that befall most women during pregnancy.

Pregnant women who exercise seem to have better self-esteem and a lower risk of depression and anxiety.

Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - Fibromyalgia

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or the Chronic Fatigue Dysfunction Syndrome is characterized by some symptoms that are often confused to be because of high blood pressure or influenza. The person often feels fatigued for long periods of time, with muscle cramps, severe headache, nausea and other symptoms that are not cured by long rests. Even the fatigue suffered by individuals suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is debilitating and prolonged leading to gradual decrease in the person’s ability to perform even daily activities due to tiredness.

Unlike influenza or high blood pressure, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome makes the person more tired by the day. The symptoms do not let up without proper treatment for at least some relief if not a total cure. In the event an individual is suffering from all the mentioned symptoms such as acute tiredness that stops from even doing the basic everyday tasks, body pain, nausea, headache, and so on for more than half a year, then it can be safely assumed that the patient is suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and immediate treatment is in order.

Fibromyalgia syndrome is somewhat similar to chronic fatigue syndrome in the sense that both are chronic diseases. However, Fibromyalgia is characterized by severe pain in specific areas of the body such as neck, shoulders, spine and hips. This disease, unlike chronic fatigue that centers mostly in the joints or muscles and nerves, affects all the pressure points in the body. It also affects the bowel movements in a patient to a large extent. Also, most affected parts in Fibromyalgia syndrome are the chest, ribcage, thighs, knees, hips, lower back, and spine, along with the neck, shoulders, elbow joints, knee joints and arms.

In the Western world, one in four people suffer from prolonged tiredness in one form or another, with 25% of women suffering clinically diagnosed day time tiredness. Is it any wonder tiredness is gaining a reputation as the modern plague? When we do suffer from tiredness, we can do a number of things to try and reduce the symptoms. Things like sleep more, drink a lot of coffee, have an energy drink, take energy pills, or other forms of stimulant. These five things aren't doing anything good for us in the long term.

When I used to sleep 10 to 12 hours, I'd find myself waking up and feeling really groggy, like I'd only had a couple of hours sleep. A cup of coffee is just a stimulant. It will pick you up for a short amount of time, then you'll feel tired again and need another one. Next time you reach for that coffee pot, think about the fact that coffee can actually make you more tired, by causing iron and Vitamin D deficiency - both causes of chronic fatigue syndrome.

Like with coffee, energy drinks are a quick pick me up. But energy drinks often have an extremely high amount of caffeine in them, so you should think carefully what you are putting into your system and the long term effects of doing this. And you feel worse after the short buzz anywhere (yes been there too).

Caffeine is not a healthy stimulant, every time you take a high dose of caffeine, you are making your heart beat faster than it should you are sending a surge of blood to your brain. Once again you will feel the effects of energy pills for a little while, but when your catches up you will be even more tired. I remember taking about 6 caffeine pills for all night study session, and going to lie down the following afternoon just for a little rest and then waking up 6 hours later!
The stimulants already mentioned and other stimulants (both legal and not) only have the effect of mastering the symptoms of tiredness. They do absolutely nothing, absolutely nada for excessive tiredness and chronic fatigue syndrome. Instead by consistently using these stimulants you can end up pushing your body to its limits and burnout resulting in even more tiredness. It becomes a Catch 22 situation.
